Where’s Fluffy?

October 16th, 2008

Thats what easily could have been the title of the teen comedy Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. In the tradition of Before Sunrise and Adventures in Babysitting the movie takes place all in one night and centers around our title characters trying to find the elusive band Where’s Fluffy? who play at various and secret places within the city. Its genuinely funny and touches on the adolescent issues of insecurity and what to do with your life after highschool. The movie is sure to become a cult classic with teens and young adults and those on the other ends of the spectrum are not likely to relate.Worth seeing in the theaters and owning at home  3.5 stars out of 5

No We Don’t Have Names

October 16th, 2008

Yes thats what I wanted to say to everyone who asks and pesters us about it. NO we don’t, We only found out the sex of the babies last week.  We were waiting until we found out to discuss names in any serious way. Currently we are just discussing them.

Apparently some people have the names of their children picked out long before they are conceived.  That certainly was not us. Quite frankly the decision to have children is something we took our time in getting too. We allowed things to develop more naturally then push towards a ridiculous deadline.

So NO we don’t have names yet! I’m only four months pregnant now. We are painting the nursery and ordering cribs.  We have another four months to decide on names and while if  when the children grow-up and don’t like the colors of their nursery we can simply paint over it; a name is something that will stick with them for life so we have no intention of choosing them capriciously.

Its a lot of pressure choosing a name. Its a very permanent decision, almost as weighty a decision as to have children in the first place.

Also I would like to note at this juncture that people keep giving us names for a suggestion. Like we dont have a baby book with 50,001 names or access to the internet. Like the reason the name wasnt choosen instantly was because no one had said to us, “name the girl Mary”. No one says anything brilliant that is unknown or that we have never heard before, but everyone thinks its so helpful. To be honest if I wanted your opinion on naming the children I would have asked for it.  Until I do, please don’t come to me with miraculous names you just happened to come upon.  My husband and I are having a hard enough time agreeing with one another about names, so I really don’t need to worry about offending you because I don’t like the random name you spewed forth for someone not your child.

Two Babies

October 15th, 2008

I think its amazing here I am an individual who was just getting comfortable with the idea of being a mom, and now here it is I will be a mom twice over. It appears the double dose of hormones I’ve been receiving from the twins is the cause of the extreme morning sickness, back pain, and all the other “fun” pregnancy things I’ve had to endure.

Even though my husband had decided two was going to be the magic number I found myself saying, whilst nestled next to our toilet for the third time in a day, that I couldnt go through another pregnancy ever again. So low and behold I dont have to.

18 weeks

So the 18 week update comes with the exciting news that everyone has been clamoring for since we found out that we were pregnant, we found out the sex of the babies. We are having a Boy and a Girl. Which is what I really wanted, one of each I mean.

Also, I think with the children being different sexes it will be easier to treat them as individuals instead of as a unit. Or at least thats my hope.Thats all you can do with kids is hope though, hope you are doing a good enough job, hope you get it right, hope they grow up to be productive members of society and hope they still are speaking to you once they are grown.

Its a terrifying thought to be a parent, its what’s kept me from it for so long, not that I hate children or anything like that I just didn’t want to ruin anyone’s life. I never wanted to bring anyone into the world who would grow up to hate and resent me. All I can do is hope for the best, however as thats not in my nature, I get my husband to remind me that it will all be ok, and hey if not we’ll get the puppy to raise the one that doesn’t like us.

Babies and Pregnancy

October 15th, 2008

I know it doesnt seem a fitting topic to go on the blog, however it seems to be the next step in my life. Its so odd as I never thought I would be maternal enough to be a mother. Seems Im the only one, all the friends and family have great confidence in my husband and I as mature and responsible adults who will be good parents. All I know at this point for sure is that pregnancy isnt what I thought it would be.

“I am Iron Man”

May 13th, 2008

The latest in the Marvel series to be adapted for the big screen, Iron Man is blockbuster gold and hot rod red. I just have to say what a refreshing change of pace this film was after the Spiderman 3 debacle.  But, the film delivers on all the hype. Tony Stark, played brilliantly by Robert Downey, Jr. , is a wealthy & brilliant playboy who has a moral change of heart after he is kidnapped and his own weapons are used against him. Supporting cast of Gwenyth Paltrow, Terrance Howard and Jeff Bridges rounds out the film and shows what a Marvel film could be if it really tries. The ending sets the film up for a Franchise and hopefully they dont allow that to ruin the quality they have going right now. This movie is definetly worth seeing the theatres.

Puppy Update

May 1st, 2008

So, the little pup is growing and growing. Lizzy is almost 7 months old. She is over 52lbs has graduated from her Puppy Class and will be graduating next week from her Intermediate Puppy Class. She does all kinds of cute things including High 5. She is smart, socialized and well behaved. We finally broke her of jumping on the furniture, it took a solid 2 months of all of us being consistent with her, but it finally happened. She doesnt jump up there anymore. Every once in a while she will be playing with the cat (yes she plays with the cat now) and she will put her front paws on the couch because the cat jumped up their, but its nothing like what she put us threw before. And a quick correction causes her to get off immediately.

So she finally is on good terms with the cats, Iris still will hiss, but now she comes downstairs alot more and has established what her comfort level is in relation to the puppy. Peanut is so calm and chilling that we knew it was a matter of time before they were friends.

She is good friends with Harley, our Friend’s pit-bull, They love each other and walk around the house giving each other kisses.

The biggest issue we seem to have is when company comes over. She gets very excited and many people don’t know how to properly interact with a dog, even when they have one themselves. She jumps on them and then they pet her. If you reward the behavior she wont stop doing it. Now when I or my husband gets home from somewhere and she is excited to see us, she runs up to us and then sits, her tail wags very vigorously but she knows she wont get petted until she is sitting down, and if she does jump we turn away and say off. Its amazing how few people will tell a dog off or no to jumping on them and then will complain about the behavior after the fact. Well you trained the animal to behave that way, cant feel sorry for you.

I am Legend

March 19th, 2008

This blockbuster of Summer was highly recommend by individuals whom I shall never ask for an opinion on movies again.  What a miserable film, Will Smith’s acting is really the only thing to recommend it. The story is thin, as all zombie movies are with no real compelling evidence of how the world was turned to this state or why the hero torments and blames himself for it. Overall the film is depressing, and while the alternate version available to watch on the DVD claims a happier ending and a closer representation of the book, having emotionally exhausted myself on the theatrical version I could not be prevailed upon to watch it. The film is suspenseful but the CG work is lackluster and all too common place anymore to stand out. While I could have forgiven some of the plot holes I find it unforgiveable to kill the dog. The dog lived in Independence Day, and everyone enjoyed that Will Smith film. so I rest my case. If the dog lives people will see it, if it dies it is beyond rewatchability. I think I might rent Independence Day.1 star out of 5

Becoming Jane

March 19th, 2008

This semi-fictional biopic about Jane Austen stars Anne Hathaway, James McAvoy, James Cromwell and Maggie Smith. While I admit I was inclined at first to want to like this film, being a huge Jane Austen fan, I felt in truth that the plot lacked all the sparkle of a Jane Austen novel. The dialogue felt forced and you found Jane to be rather like someone who used every adjective she knew rather than someone who expressed herself well. And while both Hathaway and McAvoy are fine actors and give the proper emotional gravity to the characters, one cant help but feeling they just arent right for the parts. They seem to lack chemistry and from my own personal standing feel McAvoy lacks the stature of a proper Austen hero, as he feels out of proportion with Hathaway. Also Im not sure who did the costuming or direction but it all feels false. Making all of Austen’s books feel as if they were grounded in more reality than the store of her life. It also lacks the happy ending one would hope for. And so on all acounts leaves the audience wanting and feeling that nothing was quite right about it. 2 stars out of 5

Juno

March 3rd, 2008

Its easy to see why Juno won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay of 2008. Its sharp, witty and intellegent it follows Juno, the sixteen year old  through her pregnancy and finding people to love and take care of her unborn child. With a narrative style similar to that of Thank You for Smoking. This all-star indie film will captivate you , make you laugh and make you cry. The true mark of a good film is that it makes you feel. And Juno makes you feel everything  as you see life through  her  unfiltered  eyes.  Starring Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Allison Janey, Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman.

Definetly, maybe

March 3rd, 2008

The cute romantic who-done-it starring Ryan Reynolds, Abigail Breslin, Rachel Weisz, Elizabeth Banks, Isla Fisher and Kevin Kline is a charming take on a classic romantic comedy. While the chemistry between Reynolds and Breslin is great the rest of the film isn’t as fresh as they wanted to be- every surprise feels calculated. Its an enjoyable way to spend your evening as all of the actors  turn in  infectious performances, however I would save the $9 bucks and wait until it comes to video.
